Steve Jordan of The Verbs

As you all know, I’m a HUGE John Mayer fan, so it’s always fun to go to a show.  However, this past Sunday in Philadelphia, I was excited to see John for another reason.  John’s drummer on this leg of his tour is none other than Steve Jordan.  Jordan is a founding member of The John Mayer Trio and also co-produced Mayer’s last 2 solo records (2006’s “Continuum” and 2009’s “Battle Studies”).  If you don’t know Steve by name, you probably know him by his sound.  Steve has played with some of music’s biggest acts and has had an incredible career as a musician, producer, and musical director.

But, in addition to all these things, he also has his own band, The Verbs, along with his wife, Meegan Voss. I joined Steve on his tour bus before his show at The Wachovia Center on February 21, 2009 to talk about The Verbs, their future plans, and his upcoming projects.

(Note: The interview is a little lengthy, so it's cut into 3 parts if you'd rather hear it that way. Also, 4 clips of interest have been highlighted at the bottom of the page.)

Mark Interviews Steve - FULL INTERVIEW - 32:25

Steve Jordan Interview Part 1 - 7:29

Steve Jordan Interview Part 2 - 11:21

Steve Jordan Interview Part 3 - 13:13

Steve talks about when he'll leave John Mayer's tour and future Verbs live dates. - 1:39

Steve comments on John Mayer's recent Playboy interview. - 1:53

Talking with Steve was a great experience, and it was one of the few interviews where I really felt like I didn’t have enough time to ask him everything I wanted to (that’s probably why I jumped around so much!).  I can only hope I have the opportunity to have him on again.
